The ravages of the wood boring beetle are showing in the growing number of dead trees, but the beauty and relative seclusion are still there. If you are quiet (speak in normal tones, shut off your portable radio and TV, and behave yourself---read: don't drink to excess) you'll see herds of deer, falcons, various birds, squirrels, chipmunks, the occasional raccoon, rabbit, owl, or badger... And maybe glimpse a moose, black bear, or a mountain lion from far off. A fair number of people come here to get drunk and loud. Surely they've never seen what the forest is. The beauty and seclusion must frighten them I suppose.
Love being on the mountain and just listening to the quite. Going back next year when the snow is gone.
Beautiful aspens. Accessible campgrounds. Great roads for ATVs and high clearance vehicles. Lots of caves. Great hiking. Beautiful country. Some cattle.
A beautiful area. Great for cutting down your Christmas tree
This National Forest has a lot of wildlife, nature trails, and mountain bike trails. It has many lakes where the fishing is good. The campgrounds open in mid May and close in mid September.
